Local Town Allows Beer Sales On Sunday

Posted on 20 October 2010 by johnd

Another local town will be allowed  to sell beer and wine on Sunday, according to a vote by the city of Verona’s aldermen.

The vote narrowly passed by a 3-2 margin, regardless, the window of opportunity for Verona residents to buy alcohol is open even further. Prior to the vote, residents could buy beer and wine Monday through Saturday. The new amendment allows beer and wine to be sold on Sunday, but a hurdle in the  form of a possible mayor veto must be cleared.

Ten days is the allotted time the mayor has to decide whether or not to veto the amendment.

Man Ignores Burn Ban, Starts Wildfire

Posted on 18 October 2010 by johnd

A man burning leaves in Lee County was the culprit for a wildfire that burned dozens of acres Sunday. Two firefighters had to be treated for smoke inhalation, otherwise there were no injuries to report.

The city had a burn ban in effect, but this man obviously wasn’t aware of that. Firemen from a good number of departments were called to work on the blaze off of Pontocola Road. Officials say that if the wind would have been blowing that day, the fire would have gotten out of control.

The man was cited and faces possible fines for his lapse in judgment. Remember, during a burn ban, you can’t burn anything. At all. Glad we’re clear on that one.

Players Vacation Club and MS Company, SignatureLink Capture Electronic Signatures

Posted on 14 August 2010 by admin

Players Vacation Club, a leading provider of Vacation Financing and Travel Credit, runs SignatureLink to bind its Terms & conditions with new members, and help prevent fraudulent credit card transactions at online point of sale with Electronic Signatures. “The travel industry is plagued by illegitimate chargebacks and is considered one of the highest risk categories in terms of Online Payment Fraud”, say’s Chito Collins, Vice President of Sales and spokesperson at SignatureLink. “We developed SignatureLink specifically to help solve this problem.

Our merchant customers like Players Vacation Club embed our Electronic Signature Pad at the bottom of their terms & conditions or shopping cart checkout page. In order to complete a purchases shoppers must sign their name using a mouse [or finger if touchscreen] before completing their transaction; just like they would in a brick-n-mortar department store.

When the credit card company evaluates the chargeback dispute, the added evidence SignatureLink captures is considered; such as a real handwritten signature image, IP address, date/ timestamp, and browser version. Most often, as our case study shows, the illegitimate chargebacks settle in our merchant’s favor.”

High-risk merchants not only suffer huge losses from online payment fraud each year but their payment processing fees tend to be much greater than those in lower periled categories. “Fraud prevention tools like those offered by SignatureLink provide merchants like us the second leg to stand on during a chargeback dispute evaluation”, says Robert Gautereaux, President at Players Vacation Club. “Given their reputation to help with payment fraud issues specifically, we turned to SignatureLink as a quick and simple solution to complement our existing fraud tool portfolio.”
